Dissemination and Training Event held in Malta

On the 25th May 2018, the Malta Intelligent Energy Management Agency (MIEMA) hosted a dissemination and training event in connection with the European project, STEPPING. The event was organized in collaboration with another Interreg-MED project called NEWFINANCE, in which MIEMA is also involved. During the event, Maltese and Gozitan public entities and local stakeholders had the opportunity to participate in the workshop on new financing models for energy refurbishment projects in public buildings.

STEPPING is involving six European countries, with the general objective to increase the adoption of a new investment scheme for the energy retrofit of public buildings, called EPC, energy performance contract. The EPC contract includes the involvement of an ESCO, energy service company, which is responsible for financing and implementing the energy measures, while getting paid from the energy savings achieved.

MIEMA is the Maltese partner in the Stepping consortium. STEPPING project addresses the need for increasing energy efficiency of public buildings and achieving the Nearly Zero Energy Buildings (NZEBs) targets for Malta, set by the European Directive. With this objective, the project focuses on raising the knowledge of MED institutions in the design, implementation and management of energy efficiency plans for public buildings.

The event seen the participation of an international expert and Energy Manager that delivered a training session entitled “Energy Performance Contracting for Energy Renovation Projects in Public Buildings” followed by a roundtable of discussion involving the present attendees.

MIEMA shall be organizing more events on the same thematic as well as, a specific training seminar for STEPPING in June. MIEMA is also participating at the EUSEW event in Brussels in June.
