STEPPING project partners who have been cooperating during the last three years brought project activities to the final step. The final conference took place in Athens on 24th October, the day after the #MEDforYOU event.
On the conference which was held in the organization of Aegean Energy Agency under the name “Retrofitting the Mediterranean public building stock through Energy Performance Contracting “ policy-makers, industry representatives, market actors and project facilitators gave the deeper insight into the field of energy performance contracting.
The conference was implemented in two sessions. The first part was dedicated to the Energy Efficiency in the Multi-Annual Financial Framework (state of play and priorities beyond 2020), the second part to the STEPPING key outcomes, where the discussion was dedicated to the key findings of project partners gained during the implementation of the project.
On the conference policy frameworks for EPC in different parts of Europe were presented. The discussion raised out the proposals on how to make EPC work for the MED area, taking into consideration the MED-specific context (the climatological conditions, the building typology, the economy status and market conditions, the governance structures).
Discussion revolved around barriers but also enabled conditions that can increase the use of EPC in the retrofitting of the MED public building stock, such as: the need for tailored financing instruments effectively combining ESIF with EPC; the recognition of the role and support for EPC facilitators; simplified processes and standardization; targeted capacity-building to municipality staff.
